Restaurant next to dock was excellent. Not sure if there was a 'go fast' boat convention in town, but the exhaust noise from noon 'til dark was really ridiculous. The high outside dock in front of the restaurant prohibited us from getting on and off of the boat at low tide. The boat traffic both large and small, rocked us all night long. There is no bath house, so that is certainly a “con”.
Happy hour food,
There are no shower facilities and the bathrooms are serviceable. Please note fuel dock is being renovating and will not be available until May. "We are hands-on business people," Giordano said. "One of usunlocks and locks the place every day."

The dock hands are quite good about helping with line handling. Steven the Dock Master was amazing. He's very knowledgeable and even washed the water marks and filled our fenders when we got fuel. Passed out leaflets with all kind of info. And cracking jokes the whole time. We never encountered such a helpful friendly and funny dockside assistance Restaurant was very good along with the staff.

The Army Corp had actually closed the C&D Canal due to fog. I contacted the Dockmaster and he called me when the Canal was open to traffic. My only complaint has nothing to do with the marina. The restaurant has gone downhill. My guess is they have a new chef.
Schaffer's is a desirable destination, not just a great marina and restaurant. Beautiful view of a competitor across the Canal, too. After a long run up the Chesapeake with foul current all day, we arrived at sunset. Steve stayed late to handle our lines for us and could not have been more helpful.
Dockhands were knowledgeable and knew how to secure boat to fixed pier. Fun being on the edge of the restaurant and people eating who wanted to be more informed about boats. Great experience on the C and D canal. A 2-3 knot current with an easy approach. Dock hands are very helpful. We overnighted on the face dock which are fixed-3 foot tide.
Menu for Schaefer's Canal House in Chesapeake City, MD
The restaurant does have special menus for holidays, as well as an amazing event space, perfect for hosting your next big shindig. The beautiful veranda that overlooks the creek gives guests a quiet spot to catch up on some serious R&R. Nice stop between the Cheasapeake and Cape May.
Restaurant is good and convenient. Currents not a significant issue when taken bow first. Marina staff is very knowledgeable on currents and did a great job of securing the boat for an overnight stay. Will be using the Marina on my return trip.
Much enjoyed the large bar/restaurant - good food and service. This is a restaurant with a dock that accepts transients, not a true marina. Only docking for sailboats is along the canal bulkhead, but wake from passing boats was less than feared, since Chesapeake City is a "no wake" zone. Note that they have fuel (gas and diesel), but no other amenities for transients (no pump-out/showers/laundry/after-hours toilets etc.). Those would be welcome additions that could lead to longer stays. Dealing with the currents in the canal and the huge concrete Chesapeake City Bridge support in the middle of the dock can be quite a challenge.

The location is great and we got to see the swapping of pilots on a vehicle carrier ship right from our boat. Good spot for waiting on the current and getting a great meal at the restaurant. Dock hands were great and very helpful.
Enjoyed our dinner so much we decided to go back for Sunday brunch. Very friendly and competent Dock Master, Steve, guided us right into fuel dock and then around to out spot on the bulkhead. Despite passing ships, there was very little rocking from wakes. Restaurant was good and steps from the boat.
It was prime rib ordered medium rare and arrived medium well. Then got chicken parmigiana. Always awkward if seen as a complainer. The owner and his son were polite and the facility was a perfect stopover. Very good prices at the dock and restaurant.
We will definitely stop here again. Nice for a quick stop especially with the shoaling at the entrance to the Anchorage across the canal. A group of Chesapeake City residents and their lawyer went tothe county liquor board on Tuesday looking for help getting somesleep at night. "We'll bring some of our most popular dishes to Chesapeake City, but we'll add some new seafood dishes," he said. The restaurant and banquet hall closed in 2005 after theDellaBarbas reportedly fell behind on mounting business debt.
This is a really nice joint. Good food & drink, with easy access. We docked right along-side parallel to the canal. Easy access to water hose and electric hookup. The only draw-back is that there are no showers.
